Meet Ray and Tricia, the hands and hearts behind the beans

Nestled in the lush landscapes of Woopen Creek, Queensland, our journey began with a shared dream: to cultivate something pure, sustainable, and deeply rooted in the land we love. Inspired by the rich biodiversity of the region and the allure of vanilla’s complex cultivation, we embarked on a path less travelled.

 Vanilla, often dubbed the “black gold” of the spice world, is renowned for its intricate growing process and exquisite flavour. Recognising the unique climate of Woopen Creek, characterised by fertile soils, ample rainfall, and a harmonious ecosystem we saw an opportunity to produce high-quality vanilla beans that could stand out on the global stage.

 In 2019 we purchased our dream property and started the next chapter of our lives as “Vanilla Bean Farmers”. Ray hand built two purpose-built shade houses for the Vanilla, and we together transplanted hundreds of vanilla vines into the shade houses in 2020.

We have commitment to sustainability and organic farming practices, by avoiding synthetic chemicals and embracing eco-friendly methods, we’ve ensured that our vanilla not only delights the palate but also honours the environment. We are with the vines almost daily, training them and caring for the soil that ensures they’re flourishing and receiving all the right nutrients when required.

Together we keep a close eye on the beans when they’re growing and ageing in the shade house, ensuring they’re handpicked at the right time to commence the drying process to perfection. We have a highly controlled drying process, which has proven to be highly successful. We are producing very high-quality A grade beans, maintaining their moisture, plumpness and length.
